ERCP stands for Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography. It is a medical procedure that combines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat problems in the bile ducts, pancreas, and gallbladder.
During an ERCP procedure, a thin, flexible tube called an endoscope is passed through the mouth and into the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine. A small camera on the end of the endoscope allows the doctor to see the inside of the digestive tract and locate the opening of the bile ducts and pancreatic ducts.
